Child Sponsorship works!
Many of us at SBC sponsor a child, or children, through International Needs or other charities. This sponsorship pays school fees and provides school uniforms and supplies. The relationship is two-way as the sponsor receives regular updates about their child and can send cards and letters in return. Having a photo of ‘our’ child up on a shelf reminds us to pray for them and their families.
Over the years, Roger and I have sponsored several children but some of them have left the sponsorship scheme before finishing school, as their families have moved out of the local area. However, for the past few years we have followed the progress of Sadat from Uganda as he has worked his way through Primary and Secondary school and then completed basic car mechanics training. This was his ambition since he became a teenager and we could feel his sense of achievement as he wrote his end-of-sponsorship thank-you letter to us, on graduating from the training. He is now in a good position to get a job which will give him the opportunity to put his training into practice and to gain further skills. From being in a hopeless situation, our small contribution each month has helped bring positive change and new hope to Sadat and his family.
International Needs asked if we would take on a replacement for Sadat and we are looking forward to getting to know 9-year-old Alizeta from Burkina Faso in the months and years to come. If this is something you feel you would like to do too, the lovely people at International Needs will be glad to hear from you. You can apply on https:// ineeds.org.uk/child-sponsorship or phone them on 01883 331332.
